What we store, and why.

Short version: email and name so you can log in, and what you play so we can show your results and make the games better. Nothing is sold on, and you can get everything deleted whenever you like.

The account

When you create an account we store your email address and the name you choose. If you log in with Google we get the same from there – we never see your Google password. The account exists so your results, your streak and your fox name follow you between your phone and your computer instead of dying with the browser's storage.

You can try a round without an account. To keep playing solo, for the daily challenges in the Fox League and to be a host, an account is then required. Joining someone else's room still only needs a room code and a name.

How you play

Linked to your account, we store:

  • which rounds you start and finish, in which game and mode
  • points, how long a round took and how fast you answered
  • which songs were played for you and whether you guessed right
  • custom playlists you create: what you wrote and which songs it became, so the list can be opened and shared again
  • when you open the app, which pages you visit and which buttons and links you tap – the button's label or the link's address, never what you type, and no names in game rooms
  • whether the sound failed to start or the app ran into an error
  • what kind of device you play on (phone, computer, installed app)

We use it for three things: showing you your own results and leaderboards, seeing which songs are too hard or too easy, and understanding how much the app is used so we know what's worth building next. The last one includes the question of what might one day cost money – we think you should know that.

If you play without an account

Every browser that visits the site gets an anonymous device ID, stored locally and in a cookie only our server can read. It says "same device", not "same person", and isn't linked to any name or address. We only use it to count correctly: so the same phone isn't five different players, and so search engine robots aren't counted as people. For the latter we look at the browser's identification when the visit comes in, but we don't store it – only whether it was a robot. If you log in, the device is linked to your account. Clear your browser data and cookies and the ID is gone.

When you play your free round, the device gets an anonymous fox name with a randomised key the same way, and the round is saved against it – without an email or a real name. That the round has been played is also stored only in the browser. Create an account afterwards and the fox name and round are linked to the account.

Who sees it

Only the people running Musikräven. We don't sell, rent out or share your data with ad networks or other third parties. Data is stored with Supabase (database and login) and the app runs on Vercel – both as our data processors, within the EU/EEA or under equivalent protection.

Song clips and cover art are fetched from Apple's iTunes Search API when you play, and the artist names you type into a custom playlist are looked up there. Your email address is never sent there.

How long

Account details for as long as you have the account. Detailed play data for 24 months, after which we only keep aggregated numbers that can't be linked to you. Error logs for 90 days.

Your rights

You have the right to know what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted and to have it handed over in a machine-readable format. Email kontakt@musikraven.se and we'll sort it out. If we delete the account, the link between you and your play data disappears too.

If you think we're handling your data wrong, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection.
