Music quiz questions about Swedish hits – with answers

Twenty questions about Swedish hits, with answers: ABBA, Kent, Roxette, Europe, Robyn and every other chorus that's stuck in Swedish memory. The questions come from Musikräven's all-Swedish pool – every song is Swedish, from the 1970s to today – and are checked against the charts.

How do you use the questions?

Swedish songs are a gift in a quiz because the lyrics are easy to sing along to – but tricky too: many people know exactly how a song sounds without being able to say who made it. The artist questions below are therefore harder than they look for a crowd that didn't grow up with Swedish radio.

The Eurovision selection (Melodifestivalen) is in the pool. If you want schlager only, Schlager Quiz exists as its own list, and the dance bands have theirs.

Which artists are in the pool?

ABBA is the biggest artist in the pool, followed by Kent, Roxette, Europe, Zara Larsson and Robyn – so both the exports the whole world knows and the ones that only really land in Sweden. Every decade since 1970 has over a hundred songs, with the 2010s as the heaviest, so the questions span from Waterloo to Lush Life.

One thing to know when you're scoring: Swedish artists often switch languages. Roxette and Europe sang in English, Kent and Håkan Hellström in Swedish, and Zara Larsson in both. The questions below don't care about the language – only the artist and the year.
